Ryedale District Council staff support residents affected by flooding

Staff from Ryedale District Council have worked throughout the weekend as heavy rain has caused flooding throughout the district.

Around 250 sandbags have been issued to residents throughout the district. Though some properties have been affected by surface water in the main sandbags issued have been for precautionary purposes.

Sandbags were delivered by staff from Ryedale District Council’s Streetscene to householders in Kirby Grindalythe, Duggleby, Pickering , Thorton-le-Dale, Ebberston , Ellerburn , Gilling East, Brambling Fields, Settrington Claxton and Thornton Le Clay.

Requests for sandbags are continuing to be received today (November 26) as surface water continues to cause problems throughout Ryedale.

“The heavy rainfall experienced over the weekend, coupled with the already high levels of ground saturation has created localized flooding in a number of areas,” said Phil Long, Head of Environment for Ryedale District Council.

“We are continuing to work with our partner organisations to monitor the situation.”
