RUSH HOUR traffic in Pocklington was brought to a standstill by £19,000 resurfacing work on one of the main routes into town.
Temporary traffic lights were installed on Yapham Road on Tuesday morning to allow East Riding of Yorkshire Council engineers to resurface a stretch of the road leading into George Street.
A section was completely resurfaced and treated with an anti-skid treatment to improve road safety at the junction.
An East Riding of Yorkshire Council spokesman said that the work had been planned and signs put in place, but the traffic lights seemed to surprise some motorists on Tuesday morning, leading to congestion which was made worse by the closure of Market Place for the weekly market.
The work was expected to be finished by the end of today.
