A ROAD in Pocklington town centre is expected to be temporarily closed tomorrow as a funeral takes place.
Hundreds of mourners are expected at the service at All Saints’ Church for Maureen Petrie, wife of former town councillor and three-time mayor Alex Petrie, who lost her battle with cancer.
Maureen, who was 71 years-old, passed away in the early hours of last Wednesday morning with Alex at her side.
Following discussions with police, it has been decided that the road running past All Saints’ Church, Pavement, will be temporarily closed between 11am and noon tomorrow, Friday 17 June.
With hundreds expected from as far away as Scotland, Warwickshire and even France, a section of the The Balk near Burnby Hall Gardens will also be coned off to parked cars for the part of the day.
Mr Petrie said: “I’ve had a discussion with the police because we know it will cause a bit of disruption and car parking for a short time.”
The funeral service is due to take place at 11am before moving onto the crematorium at Octon, near Driffield. Anyone is welcome to attend the services, although the family are asking for family flowers only.
