East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight and Yorkshire and Humber MEP Timothy Kirkhope have paid a visit to the first hi-tech McDonald’s restaurant in the county.

McDonald’s in Shiptonthorpe is currently the only outlet in the region where customers can order their take-away using large hi-tech touch-screen kiosks.

Traditional service is still available at the restaurant but the new kiosks will speed up customer transactions and increase choice.

During their visit Sir Greg and Timothy Kirkhope presented the Intermediate Apprenticeship Award to employee Jordan Pickering, who has just been awarded the qualification and promoted to shift manager. The politicians also were given a guided tour of the operation by store manager and franchisee Mike O’Reilly.

Sir Greg said he was very impressed with the outlet, which employs 61 local people, and added: “The electronic kiosks are easy to use and eliminate having to queue. The staff are friendly, the kitchen area is spotless and this is a great place to stop for a quick meal.”
