Kind-hearted customers of fast food restaurant McDonald’s in Shiptonthorpe have chipped in more than £2,600 to a collection for charity.

The funds were raised last year through the collection boxes at the counter and at the drive-through lane. A lot of customers place their change in the collection boxes and throughout the year it has added it up to £2,639, which will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Ronald McDonald House Charities provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families with children in hospital.

Commenting on the amount raised in 2014, Mike O’Reilly, the owner of the Shiptonthorpe: “We’re really proud that our customers who have visited our Shiptonthorpe restaurant have been so generous, many customers just put their loose change in the collection boxes after paying for their orders and it really does add up turning pennies in to pounds, over £2,600 is amazing.

“Every penny really does count. It really is a great charity helping families in need throughout the UK. The charity will use the money to provide accommodation for a family near a children’s hospital, for new equipment or will go towards paying for a brand new house.”
