Resolute runners undeterred by bombings

Determined fundraisers in the area are refusing to allow the terrorist attacks at the Boston Marathon deter them from running Sunday’s London Marathon.

A number of resolute residents are travelling to the capital at the weekend for the 26.2 mile event, which officials say will still go ahead despite last Monday’s tragic incidents, although security is being reviewed.

Among the entrants is Sally Utley, a Royal Mail postlady from Market Weighton, who will be fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK - Royal Mail’s Charity of the Year.

Sally, 31, of Westfield Crescent, says she will not be put off by the bombings in Boston, which killed three people and injured at least 140
others.

“To be honest, it is at the back of your mind,” she said.

“What happened is disgusting. But you’ve just got to go on and be defiant.”
