An astonishing report into speeding in Shiptonthorpe has revealed 3,209 drivers on average drive too fast through the village every day.

The report by East Riding Council, following a week-long speed assessment survey in April, found those 3,209 drivers travelled at or over 35mph, and of those 1,000 drove at excessive speed.

Perhaps most seriously, the report found on average 77 vehicles travel at between 50-55mph on the westbound carriageway, well in excess of the village’s 30mph speed limit.

Residents in Shiptonthorpe have been pressing East Riding Council and the police to get tough on speeding motorists and the report’s findings will add extra weight to their arguments.
