Bears have taken to the streets of Pocklington to highlight the new fortnightly bin collections by East Riding Council.

Households in the Pocklington, Market Weighton and Stamford Bridge areas now have their blue bins emptied fortnightly instead of every four weeks, while their green bins are collected fortnightly instead of weekly.

The bears, Eryca, the recycling bear and Eryc, the composting bear shook paws with youngsters and chatted with shoppers. Not to give away secrets, but inside the mascot were recycling officers Chris Black and Gary Robson.

Residents can now be reminded to put out their bins for collection by sending one text to the council to set up the service.

Details of how to sign up to receive a text the evening before collection day, visit the council’s site, www.eastriding.gov.uk.
