A variety of fun-filled fundraising activities were held across the region in aid of Children in Need.

At Fitness Connection 1079, based on Allerthorpe Business Park, gym owners Eddie Sykes and Mark McKim pedalled 125 miles on exercise bikes in five-and-a-half hours. The team at the gym also took part in a 10,000 burpee challenge and held a fitness quiz. Altogether, they raised £200 for Children in Need and the children’s cancer charity Candlelighters.

Newlands School Yorkshire and Pocklington Montessori Nursery held a ‘Great School Bake Off’ and raised £355.15 for Children in Need.

The people who had the difficult task of judging the baking delights were Martin Ratcliffe, Mayor of Pocklington, Zoe Ware from Betty’s of York and Dale Worman from the bakery at Sainsbury’s in Pocklington.

Melbourne Community Primary School pupils donated £1 each to come dressed as a superhero/hero or come in their own clothes. Buns and Pudsey biscuits were also for sale during the day to help raise money for the cause.

On the day a representative from the Wise Owl Bird Of Prey Centre visited the school, and brought along a scops owl, tawny owl, barn owl and European eagle owl and some children got to hold them. The school raised £114 for Children In Need.

At Market Weighton Pre-School, staff and children wore their pyjamas and held a bake sale. They raised
£24.
