Police are warning motorists in East Yorkshire to be extra-vigilant following a spate of house burglaries this month in which car keys have been taken leading to cars being stolen.

Most of the offences have occurred overnight when offenders have entered homes through unlocked doors or windows, say police.

A police spokesperson said: “We want to remind householders to always lock and secure their homes, especially at night, and to store car keys in a safe place. Never hang keys on the inside of a door and never leave keys on show or in an obvious place.

“If anyone sees anything suspicious please contact the police immediately, we want to catch those responsible, and with the help of the public reporting anything out of the ordinary we hope to catch them before anyone else becomes a victim.”
