Police appeal after theft of shotgun

A shotgun and shooting jacket have been stolen from a van parked at The Star Inn, North Dalton

Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft which, they say, happened on Wednesday (28 January 2015) between 6pm and 6.30pm.

A police spokesman said: “The window of a Ford Connect van was smashed and a Deerbolt shotgun, browning 525 over and under was stolen along with a man’s shooting coat. The van was parked at the car park of the Star Inn in North Dalton at the time of the theft.

Police are asking anyone with information or if they are offered this shotgun to contact them on the non-emergency number 101, quoting Crime Reference CJ/2094251/2015

Meanwhile, police have repeated warnings to drivers not to leave valuables on display in vehicles.

They are reminding drivers:

• Never leave property of any kind on view.

• Take all your belongings with you when you leave the car. If you cannot, lock them in the boot out of sight

• Lock all car doors and close all windows every time you leave your car.

• Never leave identification or vehicle registration documents in your vehicle.

• Don’t park vehicles were they are hidden from view. Where possible park in a well lit car park with an attendant or CCTV.
