POCKLINGTON School is one of eight schools and colleges taking part in the annual Youth Speaks Competition on Monday.
Organised by Rotary Clubs in East Yorkshire and Hull, the contest sees pupils put their debating skills to the test in an effort to outwit each other and gain confidence in public speaking.
Pocklington School has entered two teams in the senior section of the competition which will be held at Hull University’s Middleton Hall.
David Chandler, one of the organisers said: “The competition is again proving to be popular.
“Over the years, youngsters have shown just how much debating talent there is in schools.
“Youth Speaks gives them an opportunity to develop their skills; do their research and present their arguments within a very tight time schedule.
“Time and again the competition has given them experience which is extremely valuable when they start going into the jobs market.”
