Pocklington radio project needs your input

Organisers hoping to launch a new community radio station in Pocklington are looking for local people to help them with ideas for programmes as they prepare to bid for a broadcasting frequency.

Stuart Cocker, who currently works at Market Weighton based Vixen 101, is spearheading the bid to Ofcom for West Wolds Radio, which would broadcast to Pocklington and the surrounding villages.

Under Ofcom rules, Vixen 101 is not allowed to expand its coverage into the Pocklington area and a separate station must be dedicated a frequency for the town.

Last autumn, the Pocklington Post revealed plans were in motion to create a Pocklington-based station and, as part of the Ofcom application process, which takes place in the first half of this year, applicants must demonstrate local support for a station.
