The latest Telling Tales creative writing radio show for East Yorkshire will hear from a Pocklington man who has just published his autobiography.
John Charlesworth talks to the Vixen 101 presenter Julie Barker about his hobby and different writing skills, in the June edition of Telling Tales.
John said: “Last year at the age of 72, I had my first book published, ‘The Adventures of the Garden Fairies - The Land of Mog’, inspired by our grandchildren. This March, my second book was released, written for grown-ups and entitled Rhyme and Reason. It comprises personal anecdotes, told partly in verse.”
The monthly, hour-long show, which will be broadcast at 4pm on Saturday 14 June, will also give a reminder to East Yorkshire writers about the Telling Tales and Pocklington Post short story competition.
It is free to enter and needs to be up to 1,000 words on any theme. There are two categories: under 16 and 16+. All the terms and conditions are online at www.vixen101.co.uk, and entrants are urged to check them. The closing date is 15 July and entries should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or posted to Telling Tales, Vixen 101, Market Weighton, YO43 3AH.
The June programme also features more short stories by local writers and competitions they can enter.
Julie said: “I find it very inspirational talking to other writers about their work and, each month, I meet a different author. John was fascinating to talk to about his range of writing. They all give tips on writing, and I hope the programme is giving creative writers the motivation to enter our competition.”
Tune in to Telling Tales on 101.8FM and online at vixen101.co.uk. The programme will available after then to download from the website, where the April and May editions are still available. The May edition features the Bridlington Poetry Festival.
