Pocklington has been rich in finds of ancient artefacts

Pocklington and the surrounding area have been rich in finds of ancient artefacts and buried treasure.

Just above the town are the Wolds with bronze and iron age burial mounds excavated by the eminent Victorian Archaeologist from Driffield, John Mortimer.

He was preceded by amateur archeologists from Pocklington like James Silburn and Dr. Thomas Wilson, the Pocklington surgeon.
