WORK is now underway on a new children’s play area in Sancton.

The parish council has been awarded an £8,700 grant from Waste Recycling Environmental Limited (WREN) to build the play park off Houghton Lane - a facility which has been in the pipeline since 2005.

A survey carried out by the parish council in 2006 found that 61.1 per cent of people in Sancton wanted a play area in the village.

The parish council has now leased land from East Riding Council for 25 years and phase one of the play area development is now almost complete.

This includes clearing the land, fencing, land preparation and minor construction work before new grass is sown in the spring.

When complete, the play area will be a combination of natural play and manufactured equipment.

Community company Playscape, based at North Newbald, organised the consultation, planned the site and applied to WREN on behalf of the parish council for the grant.
