Plaque built for “missed” friends

THE MEMORY of two keen gardeners who passed away is to live on after a tree and plaque were erected in a village in their honour.

Sancton and District Gardening Club decided to place a permanent reminder of Ken Lee and Diana Kemp in the centre of Sancton to mark the contribution they made to the popular group as founder members.

Both were keen expert gardeners.

Member June Mill paid tribute, saying: “The tree is a whitebeam like those along the Sancton and Market Weighton Road and it is hoped it will be a pleasant reminder of two much missed friends.”

The club was started in 2005, and meets on the third Thursday on alternate month- the next meeting being 17 March. There are currently 15 members from Sancton and Market Weighton, who attend meetings for support and advice about their gardens. A plant swap is planned for late spring.
