Pen friends Carole and Diann come face to face after 62 years

A former Pocklington Schoolgirl has spoken of the emotional moment she finally met her American pen friend after an amazing 62 years of correspondence.

Carole Wilde (Nee Swann), 69, began writing to Diann Fish in 1951 after a teacher from Boston in America visited Pocklington County Primary School with the names and addresses of people in her school.

Neither Carole or Diann could have expected to still be writing to each other after so many years but amazingly their unbroken correspondence continues to this day.

Carole and Diann finally came face to face last month when Diann (now Baker) came on a two day visit to London with her husband.

Carole and Diann with their husbands Bernard and Rod enjoyed a trip to Kensington Palace, a ride on an open top bus and a meal before Diann and Rod left to continue a European tour taking in France and Italy.
