A party has been held for a well-known member of the community who has spent more than a decade raising funds and awareness for a charity which supports people with a rare degenerative brain disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

Michael Shepherd, who lost his wife Shirley to the illness, celebrated his 80th birthday with family, friends and supporters of the condition.

The event was held at Burnby Hall Rooms, by the gardens, and more than 120 people attended. Those at the event were told not to buy presents for Michael but they could make donations to the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association, which Michael has supported for the last 11 years. In total, £765 was raised at the party, which has been donated to the charity.
