A keen cook has helped produced a book containing old recipes with a modern twist to celebrate the ‘spear pie’ tradition in Stamford Bridge.
Chris Booth, of Stamford Bridge, had the idea of compiling recipes for the book after helping to organise and entering a spear pie competition in the village last year, which he went onto to win.
The Stamford Bridge spear pie is a pie in the shape of a small boat with a ‘spear’ in it and is baked to commemorate the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066.
Mr Booth is a member of The Battle of Stamford Bridge Society which decided to hold the spear pie competition in 2013 in an effort to re-establish the old village tradition that died out in the 1970s.
