For 15 Years, Tony Petch organised the Poppy Appeal for the Pocklington Branch of the Royal British Legion.

Last year, with much help and assistance from Mr Petch and other branch officers, Polly Warcup took over this important role and organised the record-breaking Poppy Appeal 2014 collection.

This year we are hoping to raise a similar sum in the town and the surrounding villages.

The Poppy Appeal runs from Saturday 24 October through to Armistice Day on Wednesday 11 November.

You will find our collection boxes in many shops and businesses in the town centre and beyond, and you will see the Army Cadets from the Pocklington Detachment ACF selling poppies on our behalf in the town centre on Saturday 24 and Saturday 31 October.

We have also been lucky enough to have 100 crocheted poppies donated to us by Jenny Nicholson and these will be sold in selected outlets such as the three main supermarkets in the town.

The money raised from this donation will naturally be going to the Poppy Appeal and our thanks go to Mrs Nicholson for her skill, time and hard work.

Local volunteers also sell poppies in some neighbourhoods. We are always looking for more house to house collectors, so if you would like to volunteer to collect from your neighbours in your street, please contact the new Poppy Appeal Organiser, Polly Warcup on 01430 803526.
