A couple have taken over the running of a long-standing butcher’s shop in Market Weighton and are hoping to be a cut above the rest.

Tom Bollon, 25, and Maria Watt, 32, recently became the new owners of F. Leake butcher’s shop on Southgate, which is believed to be more than 100 years old.

The couple, who are the fifth proprietors of the shop since it opened, are sourcing meat from local producers within a 50-mile radius of the shop.

Tom, who previously worked at Tindall’s butcher’s shop in Driffield, said: “It is very exciting to be running the business, a bit nerve-racking at times. We’ve certainly enjoyed it. We’re learning different things every day.”

“People have been so friendly. We want to thank them for their support.” Maria previously worked as a teaching assistant at Driffield School.
