Mayor of Market Weighton councillor Marian Frith is calling for further flood prevention work in the town following the damaging flash floods on Sunday.
The flooding comes just six months after work on a £3million flood defence project in Market Weighton was completed.
The defence at Mill Beck, upstream of the town centre, was built to reinforce safety in the area known as Monkey Run, a disused railway embankment which stores water during heavy rainfall.
Coun Marian Frith realises that the defence was not built to prevent surface water from causing flash floods, but says there needs to be further flood prevention work to stop water flowing down hills into the town.
