A small business owner from Holme-on-Spalding Moor has the opportunity to widen her horizons at an award ceremony hosted by a Dragon’s Den star.
Mireille Digard-Slater, of Mimi’s Organic Wines, had been tweeting Theo Pahitis as part of his Small Business Sunday, shortened to #SBS, like clockwork every week for a year before she was rewarded for her patience and perseverance.
She set up her micro-business selling organic wine in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor in November 2013.
Born in France, Mireille grew up around the culture and heritage of wine and always had an interest in the story behind each bottle.
A former full-time Modern Foreign Languages teacher, she now juggles her own business as well as still teaching.
Now she tours the area hosting wine-tasting parties and performing and selling organic wine from smaller producers, which aren’t found in supermarkets, at food festivals in the region.
Theo retweeted Mireille’s tweet to his 497,000 followers as part of his weekly initiative to promote small businesses.
She said: “Winning #SBS confirmed one thing I have always thought that in business you need to persevere.
“I had been tweeting him every week for about a year then one day I got the email to say he had retweeted me.”
Tomorrow, she is attending the #SBS award ceremony at the ICC in Birmingham and is looking forward to networking and meeting other businesses.
She will also receive her certificate and meet Theo Pahitis to get her photograph taken.
“It will be great to speak to other people and hear their ideas and what they have tried,” she said.
“Some of the stories I have seen are inspirational and if it wasn’t for that I might have given up.
“They said it’s worth trying for so many years then one day the timing was right for them.”
Anyone looking for a retweet from Theo should tweet him between 5pm and 7.30 pm on Sunday and include the #SBS.
Six lucky businesses are retweeted every Monday at 8pm and invited enter their profile on his website.
