A special service was held at Pocklington Methodist Church recently to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the church.
The President of the Methodist Conference, Reverend Ruth Gee, was the guest preacher at the service on Sunday 19 January.
There was a full congregation at the Chapmangate church and the Methodist Circuit Choir augmented the service with three anthems.
Pocklington Methodist Church Minister, Rev Neville Simpson, is delighted that the top figurehead of the Methodist Church attended the service.
He said: “It was an excellent service.
“Rev. Ruth Gee was there to launch our year of celebrations for our 150th anniversary.
“She was encouraging us to remember our heritage and build on it.
“She can only go to so many places in the country. The fact that she chose to come to Pocklington and be part of the celebrations is an honour for us.”
Rev. Gee is also the chair of the Darlington Methodist District and represents the Church on Churches Together in England.
