Police are continuing their campaign against metal thieves with the arrest of ten men.
They were arrested just before 3am on Monday 4 April by officers on routine patrol on the A19 at Shipton by Benningbrough.
Officers stopped a drop sided lorry and a Ford Transit van. They then found a large quantity of copper cables and pipes in the vehicles.
The men who are aged between 19 and 34, who are all from Hartlepool, were taken to York police station. They have now been released on conditional bail to allow for further police enquiries.
Superintendent Amanda Oliver, Safer Neighbourhood Commander for Hambleton and Richmondshire, said: “These arrests clearly demonstrates our commitment to front line and proactive policing across North Yorkshire and the City of York.”
Anyone who has any information about people committing the theft of metal is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 0845 60 60 24 7. Or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
