A giant cheque gave local groups in the Western Wolds a big boost recently.
Theatre company, Market Weighton Community Players, chose the town’s Giant Community Day last month to announce a share-out of £1,650 from the proceeds of this year’s pantomime and the causes to benefit.
Community radio station Vixen 101 received the largest figure, £400, to help fund new recording equipment.
It follows the work done with the station over the play, A Christmas Carol, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Receiving £250 each are the Market Weighton Boys’ Brigade Minibus Appeal, the Scouts Building Fund, Riding for the Disabled at Harswell, the theatre group IMPS and community transport service, Beverley Lift.
Jayne Thomas, chairman of Market Weighton Community Players, said: “We evolved to promote performing arts in Market Weighton and the surrounding area.
“We are thrilled that support from loyal audiences for our pantomime has enabled us to contribute to so many local organisations.”
