Pupils at Mount Pleasant Junior School in Market Weighton have been getting to grips with the sport of lawn bowls.

Children in Year 6 have made several visits to the Market Weighton Bowls Club, on Beverley Road, where they have received profesional coaching.

They have so far completed six weeks of an eight programme.

Bob Bell, one of the assistants at the club, said: “The feedback from the children and staff has all been very positive.

“We will be discussing with the headteacher of the school about having a group of children who will go onto a second programme during the summer holidays.”

One pupil said: “It was something different, really good fun. We enjoyed it. If the club had a young persons play night a lot of children would attend. A great alternative to playing out.”

Another pupil commented: “We enjoyed the games and competitions. It was fun to be taught by the professional coaches. They have a great sense of humour and very helpful. It was a lovely setting.”
