Youth broke uncle’s tooth, court hears
Aiden Clegg of Bridlington will stand trial at Hull Crown Court on June 25. Defence barrister Charlotte Baines says he may not be fit to plead. He must stay out of Bridlington and Beverley and was granted bail to Whinhill Park, Brighouse.
A FORMER ASBO teenager smashed his uncle’s tooth in a row to settle “who is the hardest” on Beverley’s Grovehill Estate.
Aiden Clegg, 19, was given a two year ASBO by Beverley Youth Court in 2009 and bragged he was “the hardest on the estate” to Russell Clegg, 28.
The pair started play fighting outside Russell Clegg’s house in Hodgson Avenue, Beverley, to settle the challenge, Hull Crown Court heard on Monday (October1)
Aiden Clegg had been drinking. During the course of the fight it got out of hand. He broke Russell Clegg’s tooth, split his lip. The uncle was left with swelling to his jaw and ear and muscle spasms in his neck.
Aiden Clegg said although he was acting in self defence, but accepted there came a point when he should have walked away.
Clegg, now of Norton Court, Cottingham, pleaded guilty to one charge of breaching Section Four of the Public Order Act and a separate charge of assault on a 12-year-old girl.
The court heard he has eight previous convictions, the last one for public order was dealt with by Beverley Youth Court.
Following the latest incident on October 12 2011 he was banned from entering Beverley and Bridlington so went to live in Brighouse.
His defence barrister Charlotte Baines said he was a troubled youth who suffered from depression and needed help from his GP.
Sentencing Judge Dowse told Clegg: “You do have a tendency to drink. You are getting involved in trouble an awful lot. There has been a series of offences in the last three years. The way you are going there is going to come a time when the courts will have no choice but to lock you up.”
He gave Clegg a 12-month community order and 12-week curfew from 7pm to 7am.
