A group of cycling enthusiasts are cycling the Coast to Coast route in August in aid of Bowel Cancer UK.

The Wolds Weighton Wheelers will leave Walney Island and over three days cross over Hard Knott Pass, the Pennines and finally arrive in Whitby.

Some of the members live in the area, including Stuart Bean, from Shiptonthorpe, while Simon Purkis and Jacqui and Trevor Alland live in Market Weighton.

The group has been training for the past few months to be fit enough to endure the 65 miles a day.

The charity Bowel Cancer UK is very poignant to the group, especially Debbie Kent who has had bowel cancer and for Stuart who lost his brother, Chris, to the illness.

Chris said: “He didn’t manage to reach retirement age so when I retired I was determined to raise funds for the charity.”

Donations can made to the group individually or through the JustGiving website, www.justgiving.com/Paul-Hastie
