Volunteers from Market Weighton-based community radio station Vixen 101 will go head to head for their annual clash with the might of Londesborough Park cricketers on Sunday.
The game of 30 overs per side is for the Mick Neale Memorial Trophy but is a friendly fixture with the aim of raising funds for Vixen 101, which is in its sixth year of broadcasting to the Western Wolds. The station has to cover its running costs through fundraising, advertising, sponsorship and hiring out its public address services.
Organiser Phil High said: “As a member of both organisations, I am proud to bring them together for the sake of the community and it’s always a test of the radio station’s sporting prowess. It would be good for Vixen 101 to win the game for once, but the main reward is generating hundreds of pounds, which we’ve done since launching this annual contest and I’d like to thank the club for allowing the use of their facilities.”
The event starts at 2pm, admission is free at the Londesborough Park Cricket Club and there will be a barbecue and raffle. For further details, contact Phil High on 01430 872776.
Vixen 101 is volunteer-led and broadcasts from studios in Market Weighton Town Centre.
