Want to own a Dylan?
WORK by Bob Dylan will be unveiled at the Acorn Gallery in Pocklington – one of only 50 places to exhibit the pictures – on Saturday.
The Acorn Gallery has been chosen to present the limited-edition graphics by Dylan, who is synonymous with selling millions of records.
The collection called The Drawn Blank Series, will be unveiled in 50 galleries across Britain.
Diane Wass and her husband John, who run the Market Place business, were offered the opportunity by their publishers Washington Green.
Mrs Wass said: "It's just a massive coup for us, we've only been open for six months.
"Washington Green have said this is the biggest thing that's ever happened to them in 25 years and this will certainly put Pocklington on the world map.
"He (Bob Dylan] has always sketched but it's never been in the public eye.
"The publishers said they wanted to take some limited edition prints but he was worried that people would buy them because he was a musician rather than being an artist, but he has agreed and we're only one of 50 galleries able to sell them. We think Bob's art is great; he sang about 'how many roads must a man walk down' – well, his artwork shows just how many roads this man has travelled.
"Often painted on the move or from a stationary position in a hotel room, the colours are fresh and vibrant and the subjects varied.
"They'll look great anywhere, after all – how many people will be able to say that they have a 'Bob Dylan' on their wall?"
As one of the world's most popular and acclaimed songwriters, musicians and performers, icon Dylan has produced a 44 albums in the past 46 years, having sold more than 110 million albums and performed thousands of shows around the world.
His most famous tracks include 'Blowin' in the Wind' and 'The Times They Are A-Changin', with many of his songs revered for their lyrical content about social change, peace, war and freedom.
However, little has been really known about his skills with a paintbrush.
The originals hang in a London gallery and are based on drawings and sketches he made while on the road from 1989 to 1992.
The watercolour and gouache paintings were created during 2007 and are said to visually echo the stylistic hallmarks of Dylan's prose, poetry and music.
Limited edition prints of 29 of his paintings will be available, and Acorn will receive at least one of each and a few multiples of some.
Each one is personally signed by Dylan; they will fetch a minimum of 1,000 per print.
However, the four-figure prices are unlikely to put off enthusiasts who are expected to snap them up within hours of going on show.
More than 125,000 internet impressions for the prints were recorded on Acorn's website during one day as the news broke of the exhibition.
"Interest has gone through the roof, we've even had an investment banker from London on the phone inquiring about them and he has not been put off by the price," said Mrs Wass.
Commenting on the exhibition at The Acorn Gallery, Samantha Jackson, marketing director of Washington Green, said: "This is an incredible and unique opportunity to view and acquire a limited edition graphic from the critically acclaimed body of work by Bob Dylan.
"For those people lucky enough to buy one of his graphics they will not only own a magnificent piece of art, but also a little piece of history."
The series of prints will be on show at Acorn from Saturday from 9.30am. With only one print each for many of his paintings heading for the gallery, those wanting to view them are being urged to visit early before they are sold.
