On Spring Bank Holiday here in Market Weighton, the Town Council held a Scarecrow Festival.
The Methodist Church joined in the fun and made ‘Billybob’ who stood proudly, arms outstretched outside the building, while little ones tried to spell his name as they came with their list, needing his name and others to complete the competition form.
Nowadays, scarecrows in the fields are usually just a piece of wood with a bit of plastic waving around, but no doubt they do the same job in that they scare the birds and give the newly planted seeds a chance to grow.
Scarecrows got me wondering what we might be scared of.
