STAFF at Specsavers in Pocklington did their bit to help combat heart disease last week by dressing up in red to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

The charity is challenging colleagues, friends and pupils to ‘Rock up in Red’ as part of its month long heart disease awareness, and the Specsavers team were only too happy to oblige on Valentine’s Day.

Heart disease is a condition close to home for opticians, as an eye test can detect high blood pressure, which can be a warning sign of the condition.

Robert Winlow, at Pocklington Specsavers, said: “It is shocking that so many people from our region suffer from heart and circulatory disease.

“Fortunately, the retina is a key window for our optometrists to pick up on underlying health problems beyond simply identifying vision loss.

“Given February is the month of love, we thought the time was right to once again show that our heart is in the right place by raising funds in store to fight the UK’s biggest killer.”
