Sneak in burglary
Police are urging people to ramp up their home security after thieves managed to snatch a set of keys through a letter box before stealing a car, a laptop and grass strimmer.
The incident happened in the Boardman Lane area of Brandesburton.
Officers said an instrument was used to reach into the house via the letter box, allowing theives to steal a set of keys.
The garage was opened and a petrol strimmer was taken.
Then the house was then entered and a laptop was taken.
The thieves then made off in a car which was also stolen from the property.
In another incident in the Boardman Lane are of Brandesburton, an insecure vehicle was approached, entered and searched.
Detective Sergeant Emma Heatley of Humberside Polices Serious Acquisitive Crime Team (SACT) said: “The examples highlighted show that some sneak in thieves do not even have to force entry into property - they can simply walk straight into your house, climb through an open window or open your car door.
“With the darker and longer nights drawing in it is important you take even more care. These thieves tend to target property in the darkness so they can go undetected. Consider installing censored lights that come on when they detect motion. This can alert you to any movement and it can also deter a thief.
DS Heatley added: “In one incident reported in Bridlington a known burglar was seen acting suspiciously, entering the garden of an address in the Jubilee Avenue area of Bridlington. He was also seen some weeks prior to this but was not reported.
“If this information had been reported to us at the time, the police could have taken immediate action.”
If you witness any suspicious behaviour please report it immediately on Humberside polices non emergency number 101, or call 999 in an emergency. If you would like further advice on securing your property please contact 101 or visit the Humberside police website www.humberside.police.uk.
