SHOPPERS at a Pocklington supermarket had the chance to meet Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’s new four-legged recruits on Valentine’s Day.

The charity, which has a training centre in Bielby, held a Puppy Love Day at Sainsbury’s, in The Balk, where people could meet the puppies that will one day become fully-fledged hearing dogs.

Shoppers could talk to staff from the charity about how puppies are trained and how to sponsor them.

Hearing Dogs mascot Bruce also made an appearance on the day.

The event raised more than £240 for the charity.

Simon Read, deputy manager of Pocklington’s Sainsbury’s, said: “It went very well. We’re very pleased with it. There was a lot of interest in what was going off.”

The Pocklington store has adopted Hearing Dogs as its Charity of the Year.

For more pictures from the event see this Thursday’s Pocklington Post (21 February).
