Police run vehicle security initiative

A POLICE campaign was run in the Pocklington Neighbourhood Policing area leading up to Christmas in a bid to educate drivers about the threat of vehicle crime.

Police targeted vehicles where valuables had been left on display to learn people about the necessity of ensuring that items are not left on open display in vehicles which could tempt a thief.

Car parks and other suitable locations were targeted in Pocklington, Market Weighton and Stamford Bridge with a total of 49 letters being sent to vehicle owners warning them of the dangers of leaving valuables on display in vehicles at any time of the year, but particularly in the run up to Christmas.

Sergeant Pete Rogers, of Pocklington Police, said: “Recent thefts from unattended motor vehicles prompted this work and it highlights how many people are still leaving items on display in their vehicles despite frequent warnings to consider vehicle security.

“We are hopeful that this work has had an impact on ensuring that vehicle crime levels in both areas have been low over the Christmas period.”
