The gym at Francis Scaife Sports Centre in Pocklington has re-opened to the public, following refurbishment and upgrading of the Tone Zone fitness suite.
The work has involved redecorating the suite, fitting new carpets and installing 22 new pieces of equipment.
The new Matrix exercise equipment replaces older items that were coming to the end of their operational lives and include treadmills, cross trainers, cycles, weight training machines and new dumbbells and weights benches.
As well as being able to watch TV and listen to their iPod on the machines, a new feature gives customers a choice of locations they can run or cycle through, from the streets of Hollywood to tracks around the Grand Canyon. This new feature is called Virtual Active and was first installed on equipment during the recent refurbishment of the Tone Zone at Driffield Leisure Centre where it received great feedback from customers.
Councillor Richard Burton, cabinet portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture, said: “This is excellent news for Francis Scaife Sports Centre and represents a significant investment by the council in improving our services to the people of Pocklington.
“The new equipment, redecoration and carpeting highlight our commitment to providing high-quality sport and leisure facilities that meet the aspirations of local communities and encourage residents to be more active, more often.”
