Nemesis team smash UK speed record at Elvington

The Nemesis on its record run

Pulses were racing and nerves were jangling last week as a team of engineers smashed the UK land speed record for an electric car at Elvington Airfield.

There were smiles all round as the Nemesis, built by Norfolk based company Ecotricity, shot past the existing record of 137mph to record an incredible speed of 151.6mph during its second run.

Based on a Lotus Exige, bought on Ebay, the team at Ecotricity have worked hard for the last two years to make the battery powered vehicle ready for the challenge.

Driven by estate agent Nick Ponting, 21, from Gloucester the Nemesis cost over £760,000 to develop and was designed and built by a team of British motorsport engineers who between them have worked with companies like McLaren, Williams and Lotus.
