Flooding on Market Weighton's High Street yesterday evening

Householders and shopkeepers in Market Weighton have been left “devastated” after flash floods swept through the town, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to some homes and shops.

A number of the town’s streets were hit by the flooding last Sunday evening, causing some people to evacuate their homes.

Firefighters from Market Weighton, Driffield, Brough and Howden tried to tackle the flooding by pumping water out of houses and off streets into the town’s beck and culverts.

For comprehensive coverage of the floods, see this week’s (24 July) Pocklington Post.
