High expectations for Pocktoberfest

EXCITEMENT is building ahead of this year’s Pocktoberfest, which organisers hopes will be the “biggest and best” ever.

As the music and beer festival draws nearer, tickets are said to be selling well as revellers from all over the country are expected to flock to Pocklington on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 October to enjoy the annual event.

Being held at the old railway station, in Pocklington’s Station Road, Pocktoberfest has attracted several big name acts this year, including the critically-acclaimed Echo and The Bunnymen, Leeds-based folk rockers Ellen and The Escapades and international pop band Guillemots, who will all be performing on the Sunday.

James Duffy, assistant manager at Pocklington Arts Centre, which is organising the event with Pocklington Round Table, said: “We hope it’s going to be the biggest and best Pocktoberfest to date.

“Last year was our first year [with music]. There’s certainly progression from everything we did last year to this year.”

Other household names set to entertain the crowds at the beer-tasting-bonanza will be local band Club Smith, who are returning to their home town on the back of a successful tour with Kaiser Chiefs.

They will be joined by Simon and Oscar, from Britpop band Ocean Colour Scene.

Chris Waite, from the Round Table, says this year’s event will have the “biggest ever range of real ales, lagers and ciders” during Pocktoberfest’s eight year history.

Over 30 beers will be available for people to try, along with a selection of lagers and ciders.

Pocktoberfest is officially supporting Help for Heroes this year and organisers hope to raise in excess of £5,000 to help with the running of Phoenix House, a dedicated residential centre in Catterick for wounded service personnel.

Sunday tickets for Pocktoberfest are £43 adults and £30 for under 18s, with a family ticket (two adults and two children) costing £130 and a Saturday ticket costing £10.
