Helping jobseekers get back into work
Beverley MP Graham Stuart with employment providers at the Beverley Jobs Fair
Over 500 jobseekers went along to a jobs fair held in Beverley.
The event, organised by Beverley MP Graham Stuart and Jobcentre Plus, was held in Beverley Memorial Hall.
Twenty one exhibitors, including a mixture of employment providers and support organisations, took part, offering information and advice.
Mr Stuart said: “Events of this nature are vitally important to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers to inspire the workforce of tomorrow by demonstrating the opportunities that are out there and the support available to help them realise their aspiration.
“The vitality of our small to medium sized enterprises is the key to getting Britain’s economy back on track, and a strong local workforce is a fundamental component in stimulating that vitality.”
Mr Stuart said he was delighted that so many people attended the event, and was grateful for the support given by Jobcentre Plus.
“We have received excellent feedback, with one job seeker commenting that ‘it was nice to be able to consider other opportunities that I may not have thought of previously. Thank you, this gives me hope’.”
Clare Suddaby, Jobcentre Plus Senior Operations Manager, said; “The Beverley jobs fair was a resounding success and I am incredibly proud of all the staff at Beverley Job Centre, who worked so hard on the organisation and logistics of the event.
“Over 500 people attended to meet with employers and other organisations who were there to help them get back to work.
“I would like to thank all the exhibitors and attendees for their support and enthusiasm on the day. Graham Stuart’s personal involvement and sponsorship was very much appreciated.”
Councillor Dominic Peacock, East Riding Councils’ Veterans’ Champion and councillor for Beverley’s Minster and Woodmansey Ward, said; “The positive attendance at this event demonstrates the importance the council attaches to ensuring East Riding’s job seekers are kept in the employment market and are able to network with employers seeking new staff and agencies that can provide help and support.
“The event offered support in keeping their skills base up to date and relevant and also offered material help, such as the council’s Wheels to Work project.”
