Green Deal Pilot in Stamford Bridge

Green Deal is the Government’s new flagship initiative which allows homeowners to install a wide range of energy efficiency measures, such as insulation, boilers and central heating at no up font cost. The cost of the measures is paid back over time through the savings made on energy bills. Green Deal is supported by the ‘Golden Rule’ which ensures that any repayments must be lower than the energy savings achieved from the work installed.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been awarded funding to undertake a Green Deal Pilot, with phase one starting this week. Working in partnership with Insta Group, a pioneer Green Deal Provider and their approved local contractor Solarwall, the Council is targeting 900 households in Stamford Bridge. Each home will receive a letter offering them a free Green Deal Assessments worth £150 - this is a limited offer. The no obligation assessment will help residents see the potential benefits of Green Deal to their property, so they can decide if they wish to access the funding for energy efficiency measures.

Two “roadshows” are being held in Stamford Bridge to provide more information. They are on Saturday 2 February, 10.30am - 2.30pm, at Stamford Bridge Primary School Junior Hall and Tuesday 5 February 2013, 3.00pm - 6.30pm, at the car park off Viking Road.

Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for the environment, housing and planning, said: “Most importantly this is a great opportunity for residents in Stamford Bridge to find out how Green Deal might work for them. The scheme should help them to make their homes more energy efficient and cheaper to keep warm without having to pay for an assessment. Additionally this pilot will allow the Council to gain a better understanding of the potential for Green Deal to help residents across the East Riding. Stamford bridge residents will be trailblazing the scheme. “

Further phases are planned for Wilberfoss, Barmby Moor and Pocklington depending on take up of the free Green Deal Assessment offer in Stamford Bridge. For more information on this and the Council’s new Yorswitch collective energy switching scheme visit www.eastriding.gov.uk
