George saw the explosion in the sky last Friday Night

A FORMER Pocklington mayor gained national attention last week after witnessing an explosion which caused a spectacular light show across the UK’s skies.

Amateur astronomer, George McManus, who now lives in Long Riston, witnessed the explosion last Friday whilst observing Jupiter through his telescope.

George, 57, who is chair of the Minster Railway Campaign, was out in the garden with his dog at the time, when he witnessed ‘a totally unexpected event’ whilst looking at a section of sky he regularly observes.
