THE future of healthcare in our region was on the agenda during a meeting of the Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in Pocklington last week.
The public meeting, of doctors and health managers at the Arts Centre last Thursday comes as the CCG gets ready to replace the PCTs in April.
The meeting focused on how healthcare services were currently performing and which areas needed to be looked at, with ambulance response times, waiting lists and the need for up-to-the-minute information highlighted as areas for improvement.
The CCG, which will commission hospital services, explained how extra services such as dermatology, diabetes and community services could be introduced, but stressed that difficult financial conditions meant that further consultations were needed to determine exactly which services were still important to people.
Though it was clear the group expects there to be difficult decisions ahead they stressed a key feature would be working with the public to co-design current and future services.
The group also discussed the recommendations of the Francis Report into failings at the Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust.
Among other things, The Francis Report recommends improving openness and scrutiny in the health service, the implementation of staffing guidelines and increasing patient leadership.
The group agreed to work towards these recommendations but would first await the government’s response to the report.
