Colourful characters have been appearing on streets and gardens around Market Weighton.

On Bank Holiday Monday, the town held a Giant Scarecrow Competition, which involved local residents making their own scarecrows, which people then came round to view. They had to write down their names and also choose their favourite.

The scarecrow with the most votes wins a voucher from Langlands Garden Centre, in Shiptonthorpe, and the person who names all the scarecrows correctly wins a voucher from Seahorse stationery shop, in Market Weighton. If there is more than one, then winner will be drawn out of a hat.

In total, there were 18 scarecrows for people to look at and name correctly.

The competition was organised by Market Weighton Town Council.
