The Rotary Club of Pocklington and Market Weighton are sponsoring a place for a suitable candidate to attend one of the 2014 Rotary Youth Leadership courses.
The objective of Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is the development of young people and each year the Rotary Club run leadership courses for those who demonstrate leadership potential and to learn those skills through practice. The Rotary Club will cover all expenses for the participant.
The residential RYLA course is open to young people who are have passed their 16th birthday on the day the course commences and who do not reach their 18th birthday prior to the end of the course. They should be in full time education or vocational training or be apprenticed in local industry.
The course will be held in Hebden Bridge from 27 July to 1 August. Another course will also be held in Hebden Bridge from 3 August to 8 August.
Keith Somerscale, from the local Rotary Club, said: “The course is intense, involving long hours and with a high level of exertion, but is a great opportunity for an individual to discover his or her capabilities.”
The course programme contains a mixture of physical and mental challenges that allow participants to experience leadership, team building, communication and problem solving skills, based on both indoor and outdoor activities such as walking, challenges, water activities, orienteering, raft building, presentations etc.
