CELEBRATIONS are underway at 1st Market Weighton Boys’ Brigade which is marking its 30th birthday.

The company is holding a series of events to celebrate the milestone.

Last Sunday, it hosted the Hull and East Yorkshire Battalion’s Founder’s Day Parade, which involved young people and leaders from across Hull and East Yorkshire and was led by the 1st Market Weighton and 1st Brough Boys’ Brigade Band.

The parade, representing the start of a year-long celebration, marched through Market Weighton town centre to a special service at St John’s Methodist Church.

Tom Clayton, company captain, said: “We had a good turnout from other companies. They all looked smart.”

The company is organising a birthday weekend, from 2-4 November, which will begin with fireworks and a BBQ night. On the Saturday, senior section members of the group will be taking over community radio station Vixen 101 from 10-11am.

On the Saturday evening, members will be visiting Waterworld in York and then on the Sunday, the company’s actual birthday, there will be a large service at St John’s Methodist Church.

Speaking about the anniversary, Tom added: “It is a milestone.

“We had big celebrations for the 20th and 25th but the 30th anniversary has come around so quickly.”

1st Market Weighton Boys’ Brigade is for girls and boys aged five and over and meets every Friday night during term time at St. John’s Methodit Church Hall.
