Bike shop expanding

bike retailer CycleStreet, which is ownned by a former Driffield School pupil, has outgrown its shop in Heworth and is moving into bigger premises in Layerthorpe – making it one of York’s largest independent bike shops.

Jon Dean, founder and owner of CycleStreet said: “Now is a great time to be expanding my business.

“The Olympics have fuelled public interest in cycling as a sport, coupled with the fact that more people are choosing to cycle as their preferred mode of transport. I’m proud of the fact that within a relatively short space of time, CycleStreet has become synonymous with exceptional quality, both in terms of stock and customer service.

“This is reflected in our hugely loyal customer base in Heworth and our win at the York Press Business Awards last year.

“I’m thrilled that we’re now able to move into fantastic new premises which will enable us to stock a much wider range of bikes including some exclusive brands, as well as reach a wider audience including more cycling enthusiasts. We’ll continue to provide those extra benefits to our customers too, including our regular ‘rider clinics’ and organised Sunday bike rides.”

The shop’s range of specialist urban, road and mountain bikes will increase significantly, with new exclusive brands stocked including CUBE and Intense backing up Orbea. The 3,000 sq.ft shop and workshop will have areas selling bikes, accessories and clothing for ‘enthusiasts’ (road and mountain cyclists) as well as areas selling bikes and accessories for urban cyclists and children. There will be increased workshop space for servicing and custom builds and an area for customers to wait while their bike is serviced. Other benefits include a free car park and space within the shop to occupy children while their parents browse.
