The Pocklington and Market Weighton canals may no longer be navigable along their full length but our connection with the rivers and seas beyond is still strong.

When we taste the salt in the air as we walk along the beach at Bridlington or gaze out at the ships on the horizon, it is sometimes difficult not to dream of a life on the waves or a voyage to faraway places.

Of course, this romantic view is far removed from the hard life of many sailors and those who earn their living at sea but it is perhaps the driving force behind some people’s collecting passions.
